German Ambassador to Austria, 1934-1939. German Ambassador to Turkey, 1939-1944. Arrested by the Allies, 1945. Found "Not Guilty" at Nuremberg, but re-arrested by the Germany government and tried. Convicted of being a "major offender," 1947 and sentenced to 8 years in prison. Released, 1949.
