Supreme Commander of the Volksstrum, 1945. Supreme Commander of the Home Army, 1945. Minister of the Interior, 1945. Lost confidence in Germany's ability to win WWII and conducted secret negotiations with Allies, 1945. Declared a traitor by Hitler. Fled in disguise, but was captured by Allies. Committed suicide by self-administered poison.
