"Governor Shapiro," 7/8" Blue/White Litho. Samuel Harvey Shapiro (1907-1987) was the Democratic Lieutenant Governor of Illinois (1961-1968) when the incumbent, Otto Kerner, was appointed to the federal bench. Shapiro ascended to the Governor's Office (1968-1969) and immediately ran for a full term in his own right. However, he lost the 1968 election to Richard Ogilvie. This button is one of two different sizes of the same design from the 1968 campaign.
