"Lowenstein for Congress," 1-1/8" Orange/Blue/White Litho. Allard Kenneth Lowenstein (1929-1980) was a seminal figure in American liberalism. He was a leader in the "Dump Johnson" movement and anti-war protests inside the 1968 Democratic National Convention and was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives (NY), 1969-1971. Despite his subsequent defeats in elections for Congress in 1970, , 1972, 1974, and 1976, he remained a powerful figure on the Left, especially through his involvement with Americans for Democratic Action, which he chaired from 1971. He died from an assassin's bullet in New York City, March 14, 1980. This item is probably from his successful 1968 campaign for Congress.
