He enjoyed the distinction of serving in three Cabinet positions. From 1969-1970, he was U.S. Secretary of Labor. After two years as Director of the Office of Management and Budget, he was called upon to become the U.s. Secretary of the Treasury, holding that position until 1974. His final tour of government service came with his 1982 appointment as Ronald Reagan's Secretary of State, a job he held for the balance of the Reagan years.
