Gerald Ford was longtime GOP Minority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives when Nixon selected him to replace Spiro T. Agnew as Vice President. His Grand Rapids, Michigan constituency knew him as a congenial former athlete and model. When Nixon resigned, Ford stepped into the active leadership of the country, under the most difficult of circumstances. In the 2-1/2 years he served as an unelected President, he conducted himself in a way that restored the tarnished dignity of the Presidential Office. But the electorate in 1976 wanted a change and the "good guy" lost to a Washington outsider--former Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter. $15.00 |
