Bess Meyerson

(1924-Alive). Miss America of 1945. Television personality. New York City Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, 1969-1973, and Commissioner of Cultural Affairs, 1983-1987. Candidate for Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate (NY), 1980. Involved in a divorce scandal in which the judge was allegedly bribed by Meyerson to help her young lover. Tried for bribery, 1988.
