Leader of the Adventist movement. Predicted Second Coming of Christ would occur between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844. One-half million of his followers prepared themselves to meet the End Times. After the predicted end failed to materialize, he then predicted it would occur on October 22, 1844. This second failure was known as "The Great Disappointment." Despite his miscalculations, the Adventist movement continued to grow even after his death and currently several denominations derived from his teachings are thriving throughout the world.
