As his reputation grew, his rulings on religious law came to be accepted worldwide. A multi-volume collection of his letters, Igros Moshe, is considered authoritative among Orthodox Jews with regard to moral and ethical issues. President of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada, 1968-1986. Chairman, American Branch, Mo'ezet Gedolei ha-Torah of Agudat Yisrael, the Council of Torah Sages, and acknowledged as the Gadol Ha-Dor, or preeminent individual of his generation of Jewish scholars.
