Founder, Moral Majority, a fundamentalist Christian political movement which opposed abortion, homosexuality, the Equal Rights Amendment, and rock and roll music, while supporting voluntary prayer in public schools, free enterprise, a balanced budget, aid to Israel, and military strength. After helping to elect Ronald Reagan to the Presidency, the organization dissolved in 1989. Falwell was a major voice of the Christian Right.
