Mary Baker Glover Eddy
(July 16, 1821, Bow, New Hampshire-December 3, 1910, Boston, Massachusetts). Founder of Christian Science. Her first husband, George W. Glover, died in 1844, one year after their marriage. She raised their child alone, despite continuing health problems. Married, 1853, and divorced Daniel Patterson, 1875. Became a student of Phineas P. Quimby, a mental healer, 1862. After his death, she began healing others by spiritual means and gathering her own students, publishing Science and Health in 1875. Married Asa Gilbert Eddy in 1877. Founder the Church of Christ, Scientist, 1879. Noted for her authoritarian management of the Church.
