Reverend Daniel Berrigan, S.J.

(May 9, 1921, Minnesota-Alive). Roman Catholic Priest and Peace Activist. Ordained Priest, Society of Jesus. With his brother Philip, a noted opponent of the Vietnam war. Sentenced to three years in prison for his role in the Cataonsville draft-file burning. Refused to surrender and became a fugitive. He was arrested four months later.

Fled imprisonment and lived underground, April 1-11, 1970. Paroled, December, 1972. Left priesthood and married an activist nun, Sister Elizabeth McAlister. Excommunicated from the Catholic Church. Founded Jonah House, a religious commune, 1972. Founder, Operation Plowshare. Frequently jailed for protests.
