(December 22, 1625, Patna, Bihar, India-October 7, 1708, Nanded, India). 10th Sikh Guru, 1676-1708. Born Gobind Rai Sodhi. Son of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 9th Guru. Installed as Guru, March 29, 1676. Poet. Battled the Moghul rulers of India. Instituted the Order of Khalsa, March 30, 1699. Died of wounds inflicted by agents of Nawab Wazir Khan of Sirhind, October 7, 1708. Noted as the last human Guru, who designated the Sikh Holy Book, the Guru Granth Sahib, as his successor.
